What I love most about this story is the way that Dare not only brings Ori out of his shell in the eyes of everyone around him, but he also finds himself. Such a fabulous twist with total power exchange and BDSM, but then again, this is Kim Dare. This is probably my favorite retelling of The Ugly Duckling. They only have to get through Ori’s first shift. No one has ever made him feel as safe and cared for as Raynard. Ori has no doubt as to what his choice will be. Afterwards, Raynard will give Ori the chance to choose to remain his or to seek other arrangements. Having Ori as a submissive until his full shift is the deal. When Ori offers said ass up, Raynard holds back until he can’t any longer. The fact that Raynard can’t get his mind off Ori’s ass or that Ori might be a duck and therefore naturally submissive doesn’t help things. Besides, Raynard has a monstrosity of a house he’s inherited from his uncle that is in need of care. When the hawk takes exception to Ori’s treatment, the head of the nest agrees to send Ori home with him.įrederick Raynard has no use for an untrained servant, but there is no way he is leaving Ori at the nest under those conditions. So when taunting and abuse from the crows of the nest are interrupted by a newcomer-a hawk-Ori is confused. As a duck, he knows his place, and that place is the bottom of the ladder.

While awaiting his first full shift, Ori is working for the nest as a server. Orphaned as a child, all Ori Jones knows of his origin is that he’s probably a duck-an ugly duckling at that-because that’s what the elders told him after his first partial shift. s master’s inspection.Buy Link: Amazon | All Romance | Amazon UK Ori stood by the dining room door, his hands folded neatly behind his back and his chin up-his stance as perfect as everything else he’d laid out for hi. The simple fact that Ori had managed to do it all without adding to the list of things he’d broken, seemed to have done wonders for his confidence as well. After all the grunt work he’d put in while making the house fit for habitation, getting to play with a bit of sparkle was obviously doing him a world of good.Ī smile crept to Raynard’s lips too. More than a few times over the last few days, Raynard had caught sight of a quietly satisfied smile on the duckling’s face. If his first forays into it were anything to go by, the more formal rituals of high service were going to suit Ori very well. Every piece of silverware shone, every glass sparkled. If Ori hadn’t actually pulled out a ruler and measured the gaps between each item, no one would have ever guessed it.
